Marie G. Mears, 91, of Sioux City died Thursday June 10,2004, at her residence. Services were held on Monday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Trimble United Methodist Church. The Re v. Carol Lames officiated. Burial was at Gracelend Park Cemetery under the direction of the Anderson- Perasso Funeral Home.

Marie was born Oct.7,1912, at Hull, the daughter of Daniel and Nellie (DeStigter) Zwiep. She attended Hull schools, graduating from Hull Community High School in 1930. She moved to Sioux City in 1931, and attended St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, receiving her nursing degree in 1934. She was a nurse at Armour and Company for a brief time.

She married John Mears on July 31, 1942, at Sioux City. She was a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, retiring in 1977. Mr. Mears died Oct. 16, 1976, at Sioux City. Mrs. Mears was a faithful member of Trimble United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She enjoyed collecting antiques, going to rummage sales, working in her gardens and spending time with her family.

Survivors include four sons, Grant Mears and his wife, Pam of Sioux City, John Mears and his wife, Mazie of So. Sioux City, Michael Mears of Spirit Lake and Mark Mears of Bellevue, Neb.; two daughters and their husbands, Nancy and James Brown and Betsy and Bill Lulf, all of Sioux City; two brothers, Leonard Zwiep of Hull and Donald Zwiep and his wife Marcia of Orange City; a sister, Helen Shults of Hull; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jana Mears; a sister, Jeanette Reed; and two brothers, Cecil and Tom Zwiep.
