GALVESTON — Michael Ray Garza age 47, of Galveston passed away, Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Methodist Hospital in Houston. Memorial services are 6:00 pm Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mike was born September 13, 1966 in Galveston to Adolph O. Garza and Bertha Gutierrez Benavides. He was a 1987 graduate of Ball High School. Mike worked at Randall’s Stores and then moved to Whole Foods in Houston before joining Silver Eagle Distributing for the last 10 years. A die hard Cowboys Fan, Mike enjoyed working out in the Gym and playing softball with his friends. He loved Rock music and even country and western. Mike was a true family man who enjoyed spending time with his children. He will be missed by his many family, colleagues and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother in law, Greg Perez and nephew Steven Perez.

Survivors include his children, Michael Anthony Garza and Leah Ines Garza; sisters, Lillian “Lilly” De La Cruz and husband R.C. “Cookie” De La Cruz of Hitchcock, Elizabeth Perez of Odessa, Patricia Meyer and husband Robert of Houston and Sylvia Torres and husband Henry of Galveston; brother, Christopher Garza of Galveston; nephews, Jason De La Cruz, Joseph Alvarado, III, Henry Torres, Jr. and Jamie Perez; nieces, Joanna Ganem, Jessica Perez and Elizabeth Torres; numerous great nieces and great nephews, other relatives and friends.

Special thanks go to the staff and Dr.’s in the CVICU at Methodist Hospital in Houston and special friends Miguel and Judy Torralba for their genuine care and concern for Mike during his illness. The family would also like to express their deep gratitude to Silver Eagle Distributing for the overwhelming support during Mike’s illness and passing.
