Helen Louise "Sarge" Souder, (nee Boeck), 63, of rural Wautoma, passed away suddenly Saturday evening, March 9, 2013, at the Wild Rose Community Memorial Hospital. Helen spent her last day with her family at a birthday celebration and dinner.

Helen was born April 20, 1949 in Berlin, a daughter of Frederick and Charlotte (Mattice) Boeck. She married Anthony Michael Souder on June 5, 1971, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wautoma. Tony, her husband of almost 42 years survives.

Helen was raised on the family farm in Redgranite. She was a 1967 Graduate of the Wautoma High School. She graduated from the Waushara County Teacher's College in 1969, and began a teaching career that spanned almost 44 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Minor in Art Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1976.

Helen had taught in the Brandon Grade School, and also in the Redgranite Grade School, but she spent 30 years teaching in all the Wautoma Schools. It was noted that Helen had taught most of the children in the area at one time or another. She was also a dedicated Special Needs Teacher. She was a great teacher who really cared about her students, and saw to it that they were prepared for life. She liked being called "Sarge." "Whether you liked her or disliked her, you'd remember her!"

Helen was a very active member of the Wautoma School District Employee's Association. She served as Secretary, President, and Treasurer. Helen's great love other than teaching was bowling. She was an instructor in the Junior Bowling Program, a member of the Hi-Lo League, and both the Women's and Men's State Bowling Associations.

Helen was also a Home Health Care Provider.

As important as teaching and bowling were to Helen, NOTHING was more important to her than her family. It is a great comfort to them that she was able to spend her last day with them enjoying their company.

She and her husband, Tony moved to their home in rural Wautoma following their marriage, and have lived there until the present time.

She also enjoyed gardening, knitting, macramé, cooking, and canning. Helen was also a great baby sitter.

Survivors include her husband, Anthony; her son, Tony, Jr. (Nikki) Souder, and her granddaughter, Stella Souder, all of rural Wautoma. Helen is also survived by two sisters, Diane Godson of Ripon; and Christine (Kenneth) Erdmann of Lohrville (Redgranite); her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leo (Judy) Souder of Ripon; Mary (David) Homier, Peter Souder, Christine (John) Gies, all of Redgranite; and Annamae (Terry) Meigher of Atlanta, Georgia. Helen is further survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends, fellow teachers, and a host of students whose lives she touched as their teacher.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Charlotte (Mattice) Boeck; a brother, Floyd Boeck; a sister, Lorena Kaping; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, James and Catherine (Schrock) Souder; a brother-in-law, Raymond Souder, and a nephew, Michael Homier.
