Mount Pleasant - On December 11, 2014, Julian Taylor, age 92, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Ruth Dyches Taylor passed away peacefully at home. The relatives and friends of Julian Taylor are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Sunday, December 14, 2014 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel on Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Julian was born May 22, 1922 in Awendaw, South Carolina, at Tibwin Plantation, son of Robert G. Taylor and Catherine Cumbee Taylor. He was the 3rd youngest of twelve children. Julian held many jobs during his life time including, Corps of Engineers (Dredge Boat Captain), Santee Dredging Company, Skinner Dredging Company and Taylor's Texaco Service Station where he retired in 1986 after being diagnosed with heart problems. Julian was a veteran of World War II from January 1942 to December 1945. He was founder of East Cooper Outboard Motor Club and held many offices on the board from being named the 1st Commodore, later entertainment chairman and sat on the board as Commodore Emeritus until his passing. The boat landing was named for him several years ago, this organization was very special to him. He was also a member of CCA, American Legion, Charleston Power Squadron, and life member of the Charleston Rifle Club. He will be most remembered at the CRC for Julian's famous fish fry's, his cooking crew there was like family to him. Julian loved the water and boating, he was known for building boats in his living room in his younger years. He loved fishing, shrimping, his wife Ruth and his family. He will always be missed, especially on Christmas Morning when he cooked shrimp and grits for breakfast for family and friends before opening gifts and celebrating Christmas. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant. He is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Ruth Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two sons, Donald Allan Taylor and his wife Alice, of Tamaqua, PA, and Ronald Wayne Taylor and his wife, Teresa, of Huger, SC; one daughter, Joan Dumont and her husband Roger, of Mount Pleasant, SC; daughter-in-law, Darla Taylor of Moncks Corner, SC; five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nine step-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John Julian Taylor, a granddaughter, Marcey Taylor and by all of his brother and sisters. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Care of South Carolina for their excellent care for Julian, especially his caregivers, Bernadette Whaley, B.J. Perry, Michelle Benscik and Chaplain David Looney.
