RAPID CITY | Vivian Olson Wold Isane went home to be with Jesus on Dec. 12, 2014.

Vivian was born Oct. 11, 1915, to Norwegian immigrant parents, Nels and Signe Olson, in a sod house four miles northeast of Faith, SD. She was the third of eight siblings: Edgar, Omar, Vivian, Ralph, Norris, Thelma, Helen, and Einar.

Vivian attended country schools and graduated from Faith High School in 1933. In 1934, Vivian received her teaching certificate from Northern State College and taught in various country schools.

In 1936, Vivian married Rasmus Wold and to this union two children were adopted, Shiela and Roger. In the early years they were in the sheep business and many times lived in a sheep wagon. On one occasion Rasmus and Vivian trailed their sheep, on foot, 70 miles to market.

In 1952, they sold the ranch and moved to Rapid City. In the years that followed they owned and operated a trailer park, a ranch near Tilford, and a service station in Black Hawk among other things. Vivan also was a teacher's aide for about seven years in Rapid Valley. Rasmus passed away in 1971. Shiela passed away in 1973.

In 1974, Vivian married Ola Isane. They had a lot of adventures while traveling including a trip to Norway and reunited with Ola and Vivian's many Norwegian family members. Ola passed away on Christmas day in 1984 and her son Roger passed away in 2005.

Vivian wore many hats: daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, historian, gardener, creator of many Norwegian delicacies, world traveler and a very hard worker, and most of all a gracious friend. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway. As a devout Christian, Vivian's aim in life was to live her faith in God.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law; brother, Einar Olsen, Spearfish; sister, Helen Sarver, Rapid City; son-in-law; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great- great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two husbands, her children, four brothers, and a sister.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Piper officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Calvary Lutheran Church.
