Mr. Thomas Esmond Snider
Hattiesburg, MS

Mr. Thomas Esmond Snider, 83, of Hattiesburg, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014.

The only son of Herbert Thomas Snider, a Louisiana Tugboat Captain and Sarah Brook Shill Snider. Tom was born in Slidell, Louisiana on November 29, 1931 and grew up, explored and embraced the culture of Southern Louisiana in his early years.

His Cajun heritage remained a great point of pride with him throughout his life for all who knew him.

His family moved north to Mississippi, and after graduating from Lumberton High School, his analytical, technical and mechanical aptitude landed him a job with Brown and Root in southeastern Texas and the Atomic Energy Commission in Dallas, Texas. There he remained until returning to Mississippi and joining the team of Hercules, Incorporated, where he worked first as a mechanical engineer then ultimately as Maintenance Shop Supervisor.

Tom was active in his community and served in numerous organizations and capacities, including President of the Forrest County School Board and the North Forrest Fire Protection District. His career at Hercules spanned forty years and upon retirement from Hercules, he turned his attention to what was close to his heart, his family, his home and his hobbies, which were, horticulture and gardening, woodworking, fishing and working on all things mechanical.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Grahame Brooke Snider.

He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Joann "Boots" Travis Snider; three sons, Monroe Snider of Hattiesburg, Mickey Snider of Haughton, LA and Tommy Snider, Jr. of Shreveport, LA; three daughters, Jacque Childs of Waveland, Diann Burnside of Hattiesburg and Tammy Buchanan of Hattiesburg; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg on Sunday, December 14, 2014 beginning at 12:30 P.M. prior to the formal services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be in Quick Cemetery on Monroe Road.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Glendale United Methodist Church 2215 Glendale Ave. Hattiesburg, MS 39401.
