Georgia Myrtle Clark Spencer, 82, of Macon, Mo., at Loch Haven Nursing Home and previously of rural LaPlata, went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2006. Born on July 20, 1923, in Sullivan County, near Milan, Mo. She was the daughter of George Walter and Myrtle Glidewell Clark. She married Earl E. Spencer on August 31, 1941, in Macon, by Elder S. L. Pettus. Mrs. Spencer, raised in the Oak Grove community east of Milan attended a rural school. She and her siblings all played guitar and sang together. The Spencers lived on a farm near Milan, then near Searsboro, Ia. They settled east of LaPlata, in 1951, farming together for4 53 years. She was a very faithful member of the Mt. Tabor Primitive Baptist Church near Hurdland, Mo., for over 50 years. Spencer was a leader in Macon County 4-H (Bear Creek Club) for 30 years; was involved in county and state Extension Club work, the Social Sunshine Club, and her community. She published a history book of 4-H and Extension in Macon County. She and Earl were instrumental in the original road marking project of the county roads in Macon County during the 1970's. Her special God-given talents included her warm hospitality, loving to cook, write letters, painting and giving away ceramics, and hosting gatherings. She loved church, being with family, farming, gardening, and lived life fully. The Spencers traveled and visited every state except Alaska. She deeply desired to go home to be with her Lord. Survivors include six daughters and spouses: Bonnie and Alvin Henderson, of Hurdland; Beverly and Ronnie Talbert, Downing; Charlotte and David Parrish, Lewistown; Patty and Alan Thrasher, Galt; Pam and Kent Stokes, LaPlata; and Marsha and Scott Anderson, Blue Springs. Also surviving are sisters: Lorene Fichtenkort and Marjorie Hampton of Burling, Ia.; 17 grandchildren and their spouses: Kevin and Terri and Derin and Donna Henderson, Leslie and Chris Lodahl, Darrel and Kim and Chris and Amy Talbert, Linda and Bruce Jackson, Brenda and Church Hubert, Julia and Ross Walden, Angela and Matt Sherman, Charles and Lisa Parrish, Michelle and Josh Tulley, Matthew and Amy Thrasher, Melanie and Frank Goddard, Amanda Weber, and Daniel and Savannah, Kellen and Sarah Stokes. Other survivors include 34 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Raymond and Marion Clark, both of Milan, Mo. and Leonard Clark of Leoti, Kansas; a half-brother, Francis Clark, of Burlington, Ia.; half-sisters, Lulabelle Etka, of Fort Madison, Iowa and Ella Sykes, Kirksville, Mo; and two grandsons, Ronnie Gene Talbert and James David Parrish, both as infants. Visitation was Friday at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville. Funeral services were Saturday, April 1, at the funeral home. Her pastor Elder Alan Curtis officiated. Music was congregational singing of "Belssed Assurance", "Oh wait, and murmur not", "Precious Memories", and "Amazing Grace". Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery at Milan. Pallbearers were her grandsons Kevin and Darin Henderson, Darrell and Chris Talbert, Charles Parris, Matthew Thrasher, Daniel and Kellen Stokes. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters and spouses. Memorials may be made to her church, Mt. Tabor Primitive Baptist Church. Memorials can be left or sent to the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
