Sandra "Sandi" Stephens Bates passed away on December 9, 2014, in Houston, Texas, after a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer.

Sandi was born in Columbus, Mississippi on November 9, 1949, the daughter of Alice Bolton Stephens and Wesley Stephens.

She was a graduate of Stephen D. Lee High School in Columbus and Mississippi State University.

Sandi married Buford Blane Bates in November 1972.

Buford's employment in the oil and gas industry took them to many homes over the years, and Sandi made friends easily everywhere they went.

She loved tennis, arts and crafts, a series of adorable pets, and collecting memorabilia, especially items associated with Great Britain.

She is preceded in death by her parents and is survived by Buford and by her son Bradley, and daughter Brittany.

Her family especially wants to thank the kind doctors, nurses, and staff from MD Anderson Cancer Center and Houston Hospice.

Visitation will take place on Monday, December 15, 2014, from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock in the evening.

A Celebration of Sandi's Life will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon with an interment to follow.

All services are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery.
