Peter Johnson emigrated from Sweden to America in 1868 with his wife, Ingeborg, and children Anna, Johanna, Charlotta, Maria, and Lars. Daughter Mathilda Johnson was born in 1869 in Porter County, Indiana. After the 1870 census, Peter and most of his family moved to Leadville, Colorado and worked in mining. Maria married Hilder Y. Anderson, Anna married Stephen Curtis, and Johanna married a William Abott, who died shortly. Charlotta married John Meyer in Chicago. Peter Johnson's grandchildren included Goldie Leona Abbott, Roy Maxwell and Harry Young Anderson, Frederick Gordon Meyer, and Milo Curtis. It is not known what happened to Mathilda and Lars. After the 1880 census, Peter moved to Washington State, where three of his daughters were living. He worked as a blacksmith and farmer. He returned to be with a daughter, Charlotta in Chicago in 1902. His death certificate in 1908 listed him as a hotel keeper, but he had had a three-month illness before he died.
