Private graveside services for former Kendall resident Katie Lee Harrison will be Wednesday at Greenacres Memorial Park with Rev. Dennis Wildermuth officiating.

Mrs. Harrison died Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Christian Health Care Center in Lynden. She was 89.

The daughter of Ben and Ida (Cooper) Hughes, she was born Oct. 18, 1911, in Cloud Chief, Okla. She married James "Jay" Harrison in Oklahoma in December of 1944 and moved with her family to Whatcom County in 1947. The family farmed near Lynden, then in Kendall until retirement.

Mrs. Harrison enjoyed spending time with her extended family and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Cowart, infant son John Allen Cowart, second husband Jay E. Harrison and son Jay Edward Harrison.

She is survived by a son, Carl Cowart of Ripon, Calif. four daughters, June Jones of Everson, Ida Vander Yacht of Blaine, Lois Pomeroy of Sumas and Glenda Van Dyk of Deming 17 grandchildren 26 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer Society of Washington, P.O. Box 4104, Bellingham, WA 98227, the Christian Health Care Center, 855 Aaron Drive, Lynden, WA 98264, or another memorial of choice.
