Robert E. Shannon, 84, 856 Cleveland Ave., died Sunday evening, March 20, 2005, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville, after an apparent heart attack suffered earlier at his home.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville, with Pastor Tom Ledford officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, where military rites will be conducted.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home, or one hour prior to the services. Online registry and expressions of condolence may be sent to the family at www.aublefuneralhome.com.

He was born Dec. 26, 1920, in Orrville to Howard C. and Grace G. (Herr) Shannon and married Faye I. Markley on Feb. 16, 1941, in Orrville. She survives.

He was a 1939 graduate of Orrville High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the European African Middle Eastern Theater.

He was employed at the former Westinghouse Corp. of Orrville for more than 31 years, last working as a calibrator. He retired from there in 1983.

He was a member of Orrville American Legion Post 282, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing euchre and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Susie (Neal) Domer of Orrville and Steve (Penny) Shannon of Barberton; grandchildren, Carie (Jim) Klemens of Barberton, Janelle (Steve) Mosher of Sarasota, Fla., Kyle (Chasity) Shannon of Dayton and Todd Domer of Macedonia; great-granddaughters, Payton Shannon, Alexis Shannon, and Karlie Klemens; a step-great-granddaughter, Cearra Sulley; and a sister, Ruthella Shelton of Dayton.

Brothers, Harry, Dixon and Hubert Shannon, died previously.
