Biography for April Dean Flowers Thomas

April, at the age of 51, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013, at McLeod Hospice House after a prolonged illness. She was born in Port Lavaca, Calhoun County, Texas, but mostly raised in Florence, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lacy "Bill", of Florence, SC, and Helen Jacoby Hash Flowers, of Bourbon County, Kentucky, who were both active duty in WW2, with Bill in the US Army and Helen as an Army nurse.

If April had been born one day later, she would have been named May Flowers, but since she was born the last day of April, that is what they decided to name her. They also gave her the middle name Dean, after her Aunt Willadean Flowers Isgett, her father's sister.

After April's parents were discharged from the military, they ended up settling down in her father's hometown of Florence, SC, to raise their 3 children, Bobby, Sallie, and April, in the local public schools.

April's older sister, Sallie, predeceased her three years before she passed away, and it is still unknown whether her one older brother, Bobby Flowers, is still alive, at this time. She leaves behind her family: boyfriend, Sam, ex-husband David Randall "Randy" Thomas, and 2 sons, David Randall (Buddy) Thomas Jr., and Joshua Lacy (Josh) Thomas. She also leaves behind her niece, Laura Byrd Leonhardt, and nephew, Brian Byrd, and their spouses and children, who miss her dearly.

April was known for her selflessness and all-around optimism. Her many friends will miss her always. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to McLeod Hospice House, Cheves St., Florence, SC.

~ Her obituary was published by Stoudenmire Funeral Home, Florence, South Carolina on September 18, 2013. I added more information, since I knew her personally for over 35 years, and her obituary was so small when they published it.

*****************
April's sister, Sallie Flowers Byrd, is interned in Thompson Cemetery, on Chinaberry Rd, in the Mars Bluff Community area, east of Florence, SC, about a mile from where both their parents, paternal grandparents, and some aunts, and cousins are buried in the Friendship Methodist Church Cemetery, which is also in the Mars Bluff area on Old Marion Highway, in Florence, SC.

*****************
Note: April had one older brother, BOBBY FLOWERS, who left the area where his parents and sisters lived in Florence, SC, and has not been heard from in at least 20 years at this point. I have no other information about his full name or where he resides or if he has passed on. So the search is still on to connect my personal and best friend, April, with all of her family members. Thanks for any help from other contributors.
