CENTRAL CITY — Katherine Ethel (Young) Roach, 88, of Central City died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at Litzenberg Long Term Care.
Services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City. Monsignor Nelson Newman will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Roach was born April 21, 1926, on a farm near Belgrade to Jessie LeRoy and Margaret (Carroll) Ellison. She attended Belgrade schools, graduating from Belgrade High School in 1944. On Feb. 21, 1945, she married LaVern Young. They lived near Belgrade until 1963 when they moved to Fairbury. Katherine was the Clerk of District Court for Jefferson County for 20 years before retiring in 1997. Her husband LaVern passed away in 1995.
In 1997, she moved to Central City. On June 25, 2005, she married Jack Roach. They made their home in Central city.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and playing bridge, and she loved collecting antiques, quilting and painting.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Roach; one son, Jim Borer of Lincoln; two daughters and sons-in-law, LaVon and Bill Stuart of Central City and Donna and Scott Summers of Jansen; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Jennie and Chris Zierott, Jeralee and Mike Hahn, Stone Summers, Aaron Shotkoski, Michaela and Trev Moravec, Steele Summers, Taryn Shotkoski, Sheyenne Summers; five stepchildren, Dean and Jennie Roach of Kearney, Jill and Pedro Carmago, Paige and Kevin Randa of Verdigree, Jaci and Ron Dettman of Central City; and three great-grandchildren and numerous stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LaVern Young; two brothers, Michael and Harold; four sisters, Agnes, Vivian, Margaret and Audrey.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City.
