Arthur E. "Art" Davis, 90, of Lafayette, died on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in St. Anthony Health Care. He was born June 11, 1909, in Lafayette, and attended Old Ford and Jefferson High School. In 1934, he was married to Rose Marie "Rosie" Steill on November 10, 1934; she died in May 1972.

Mr. Davis, a lifelong resident of the Lafayette community, was department manager at Smitty's Foodliner for many years, retiring in 1974. He was an avid sports fan, having officiated in high school basketball, and played some semi-pro baseball. He was a member of Eagles Lodge 347 and AARP.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia A. Armstrong of Muncie; two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.
