John was the son of Herman/Harmon and Johanna Benson. He married Johanna Christine Stanley about 1867 and to this union at least 6 children were born; Laticia, George, Frank, Elizabeth, David and Alfred. His wife Joanna died between 1880 and 1900 but I'm not sure if she's buried in Dickinson Cemetery with him or not.
