Manuel Phillips, 80, of Goff Avenue, a forklift operator at the former First National Stores before retiring in 1974, died yesterday at home. He was the husband of Mary M. (Rathbun) Phillips.

Born in Providence, a son of the late John and Mary (Ponte) Phillips, he lived in East Providence and Providence, living in Pawtucket for 10 years.

Mr. Phillips was a member of Local 251, Teamsters.

He was previously employed at the former American Screw Co., Providence, for 18 years. He was a drummer in local dance and marching bands for 40 years, known as "Manny the Drummer."

Besides his wife he leaves four sisters, Angelina Fernandes, Stella Proccacinni, Gloria Medeiros, Olive Rose, all of East Providence, and three brothers, John Phillips of Pawtucket, Joseph and Charles Phillips, both of East Providence.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street, East Providence. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
