When he was at Holmes County High School in Covington, he signed up for ROTC and quickly found his future. The more he got into it, the more he liked it. After graduating in 2003, He just ate, drank, and slept Marines. It was his second tour in Iraq. The first was in 2005. He married in December 2004 just before leaving on his first tour in Iraq. Justin left no one guessing about his affection for the Marine Corps. During high school, he flew the Marine flag in the front yard where he lived. When he was a member of the Holmes High School's ROTC program, and he would march up and down the street in uniform, twirling his drill rifle. He spent an afternoon at Bellevue High School visiting several teachers he knew there the last time he was on leave. Survivors include his wife, Leah, his father,Beechie, mother Alma Jones of Covington; and six sisters. He was the 23rd area serviceman to die in Iraq and the third in 10 days. The park that a Northern Kentucky Marine visited before he was killed in Iraq has been renamed in his honor. It was renamed Lance Cpl. Justin Sims Memorial Park during a ceremony attended by hundreds. He was 22.
