Funeral Services for Emma Lee James, 80, of Paducah will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 12, 2014 at the Church of Christ in Paducah with Leo Schumpert officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories in Paducah under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home of Paducah. Visitation was held on Thursday December 11, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Emma passed from this life on Monday, December 8, 2014 in Lubbock. Emma was born on March 25, 1934 in Burkburnett, TX. to Walter Cleveland and Dessie Faye Gist Stephens. She graduated High School in 1951. On July 31, 1952 she married Jimmie Wayne James in Childress.
She was the Director at the Senior Citizens in Paducah from 1977 until her retirement in 2013. Emma was a member of the Church of Christ, the Pythian Sisters, and she was also the only female honorary firefighter in Cottle County.
Emma is survived by her children: Danny James and wife Lonita of Spearman, Tx and Walter James and wife Christi of Lubbock. Her sister: Peggy Norman of Lexington, Tx. Four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Jimmie Wayne James, Brothers: Walter Cleveland Stephens, Jr., and Billy Stephens, Sister: Betty Foster, and one grandchild: Nicholas James.
The family has asked that donations in honor of Emma, be made to Paducah Senior Citizens, Paducah Cemetery Association, or to Paducah Fire Department.
