Lonnie passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 6th at age 94. He was born in Oak Grove, FL, and resided in Pensacola for most of his life. A lifelong boxing enthusiast, he spent his early years boxing in Casino Beach Golden Glove matches. During World War II he served in the Pacific as a Navy gunner aboard both the S.S. Samuel W. Williston and the S.S. El Reno Victory. After his return to Pensacola, he continued his career at the Coca Cola Company, retiring after 44 years of service. Lonnie enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling the world, but his greatest joy lay with his family.
He is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 44 years, Marjorie M. Mims, sons David Mark and Lonnie Mims, Jr, son-in-law and travel buddy Wayne Rosebrough, and loving wife of 31 years, Lucille Hansford Mims.
He is survived by daughter, Lanice Carol Rosebrough; sons, Stephen (Leorah) Mims, Michael A. Mims, Frank (Carleen) Hansford, and David (Celine) Hansford; grandchildren, Rebecca Gafford, Lonnie III and Michael P. Mims, Lisa Hitchcock, Frankie Hansford, Lorri Seibert, Druhan, Sarah, and Mary Hansford; 14 great-grandchildren; and special nephew, Lanier Ward.
Visitation will take place at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, on Sunday, December 14th from 5-7pm.
Funeral services will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Monday, December 15th at 11am. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Cemetery.
Grandsons will act as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gonzalez Baptist Church, or charities of choice.
