Reta Jo graduated from Nowata High School in Nowata, OK. She joined the Woman's Army Corp from 1949-1954. While attending the University of Oklahoma, she married her devoted husband Bruce on October 2, 1954. The majority of their married life was spent in the Kansas City area. Reta Jo taught English at several of the are high school and colleges. She was a free-lance writer for the Kansas City Star, The Suns News, and the Northland's Newspaper Dispatch Tribune. She was a gifted poet and historian. Reta Jo was a member of the Northland Art League and Historical Society for Clay and Platte Counties. She was especially proud of her work on the history of Winnwood Beach, the White Oak Chapel project, restoration of Penguin Park and her presentations on American Indian.
