Hallie F. Strine, 90, of Ashland passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at Samaritan Regional Hospital.

She was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Rowsburg to Cleon and Dorothy (née Brandt) Humrichouser, the fifth of 11 children.

Hallie lived all of her life in Ashland County. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1942 and Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in 1945.

She worked 53 years before retiring as coordinator of the OB Unit at Samaritan Hospital and worked part time in Outpatient Health Reach for several more years.

Hallie married her high school sweetheart, Warren Strine, on March 14, 1945. They were married 38 years until his death on March 18, 1983.

She was a member of Samaritan Hospital Alumni Association, R.N. Association, American Nurses Association, Ohio State Nurses Association, Charter member of VI Regional Perinatal Association (part of the American College of OB-GYN Buckeye Nurses Association), served on Ashland City Health Board, elected into Who's Who in American Nursing 1990-91, co-founder with the AHS class of 1942 of the Ashland High School Alumni foundation (now Ashland High School Alumni Association) was the first secretary and was inducted into the Distinguished AHS Alumni Group in 2003.

Hallie was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church for more than 70 years, served as a Sunday school teacher, worked and chaired numerous committees and, after retirement, worked every Saturday at the church hunger center for 13 years.

She is survived by children, Barbara (Mark) Camp of Medina, Doug (Sally) Strine of Ashland, Chris (Vicky) Strine of North Fort Myers, Florida, and Debra (Bob) Valentine Jr. of Ashland; grandchildren, Brandt (Gelin) Camp, Abby (Todd) Colao, Amy (Kirk) Peters, Ryan Strine, Molly (Tim) Bartholomew, Luke (Megan) Chronister, Jeremiah (Stacy) Chronister, Sherry (Derrick) Fair, Kacie Harris Strine, Gabriel (Megan) Edwards, Nathan (Kristi) Valentine, Ben (Kelly) Valentine, Adam (Megan) Valentine and Sarah Hardy; and great-grandchildren, Aidan Camp, Hunter and Hannah Colao, Logan and Bryce Bartholomew, Quinn Peters, Madison Spreng and Paige Johnson, Natalie and Emelia and Jocelyn Edwards, Landon Valentine, Ella and Chase Valentine, Hallie Ann Valentine, and Caleb and Isaac Hardy; sisters, Sally (Ron) Wiley of Polk and Peggy Denholm of Akron; sister-in-law, Mary Humrichouser of Polk; and brother-in-law, Frank Magnanelli of Bethesda, Maryland.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, John (Marge), Jim (Helen), Dick (Virginia), Jack and Ted (Tessie); sisters, Doris (infant), Joan Magnanelli and Dixie (Eugene) Cooper; daughter-in-law, Cathy Strine; and a grandson, Paul Rick.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 322 Cleveland Ave., Ashland, with Pastor Jeff Coggins officiating. Interment will be in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at Heyl Funeral Home, 227 Broad St., Ashland, and an hour before the service at the church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Hallie's name to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805; Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 322 Cleveland Ave., Ashland, Ohio 44805; or Ashland City Schools Academic Foundation, P.O. Box 186, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
