Virgil F. Robinson, age 93, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at his home.

He was born February 9, 1921, in Wilderville, Oregon, the fourth of six children, to Winfred and Edna Robinson.

Virgil enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 26, 1938, and inducted into Federal Service on September 16, 1940. It was at this time that he was given the nickname of Robbie. After his honorable discharge from the Army on January 23, 1942, he attended college on the GI Bill. He received his BA degree and completed post graduate studies.

Robbie worked as a Manual Arts Therapist for many years at VA hospitals in Ft. Meade, South Dakota, Livermore, California, and Roseburg, until he retired in 1976.

Mr. Robinson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Roseburg Sam’s RV group, Roseburg Gem and Mineral, Lifetime member of the Disabled American Vets, and the VA Bowling League. Robbie has always enjoyed being busy. He built a house from the ground up, remodeled a home and built unique furniture. Robbie also enjoyed golfing, lapidary, hunting, fishing and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Maxine Robinson; daughter Bonnie C. Robinson; son Virgil L. Robinson; grandchildren Dawn N. Hals (Vince Widemann); great grandchildren Lesharo Virgil Hailey and Christopher Blake Robbie Widemann on the way; brother Sheldon Robinson; nephews Dale Scoville (Margit), Wayne Robinson (Judith) and Gary Robinson and many friends.

Robbie was preceded in death by his sisters Marvel Scoville and Gladys Clark; brothers Orde Robinson and an infant brother Travis Robinson; nephews Delbert Scoville and Steven Clark; nieces Darlene Livingston and Jeanne Marie Robinson.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Oak Park for their wonderful compassion and care.

Private family inurnment will be held within the grounds of the Roseburg National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
