Byron Lee Cravens, 91, of Magazine, Arkansas died Monday, November 7, 2005, in Booneville. He was born October 3, 1914, on west end of Mount Magazine, the son of A.S. and Mattie Gantt Cravens. Mr Cravens began his career raising crops of cotton, potatoes, and corn. He had a dairy cattle operation in the 1930s into the mid-1940s. He transitioned to raising cattle, hauling, and trading in the 1940s. For many years he attended a cattle auction every weekday in Fort Smith, Conway, Mount Ida, Oklahoma county Line, Waldron or Ozark.

Mr. Cravens was a member of the Logan County Farm Bureau and Cattleman's Association. He was a board member of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for 37 years and a Magazine School Board member for over 10 years.

He married Thelma Reba Martin on October 30, 1932. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on October 30, 1992. She died March 4, 1997.

In 1962, Byron and Thelma was named South Logan County Farm Family of the year. Together they were 4-H leaders for over 17 years. They were active in the Magazine Methodist Church and he was a trustee during the building programs.

A son Donald Gene, preceded him in death in 1973. He is also preceded in death by five sisters, Ola Loyd, Mamie Coffman, Minnell Brewster, Willie Rogers, and Faye Newsom; and two brothers, Barclay and Ray.

Surviving are two sons; a daughter-in-law, Roberta; one granddaughter; and one grandson.

Services was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2005, at First United Methodist Church in Magazine. Burial was at Ellington Cemetery north of Magazine under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to First United Methodist Church in Magazine, or the Ellington Cemetery Trust Fund.
