Maxie Groce Templeton
Maxie Groce Templeton entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at her home in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 97. She was born on April 9, 1917 to Leonard Courtney and Maximina Groce, and was raised in League City, Texas. She was a fifth generation Texan and a direct descendant of Jared Ellison Groce who was one of Stephen F Austin’s “Old Three Hundred” Texas settlers in 1821. Maxie married Arleigh Templeton in 1938, and they were married for 68 years. They adopted a son, Wayne, early in their marriage. Maxie was a devoted homemaker, always a wonderful asset to Arleigh’s career in education. She had many talents, and was an accomplished gardener, seamstress, and cook; and she painted beautiful ceramics. Her beautiful Christmas pieces are cherished by her family.
Maxie was preceded in death by her husband, Arleigh, their son, Wayne, a granddaughter, Melissa; and by her brothers Leonard Groce and Courtney Groce, her sisters Beatrice Groce Millsapps, Estela Groce Crain, sisters-in law AnnaBelle Groce and Nell Groce, brothers-in-law Paul Millsapps and Wilbert Crain, and her niece Ann Groce Spencer. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Judy Templeton, two granddaughters, Kellie and Melinda and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece, Linda Groce Kiersh, her nephews Bill Groce, Bill Crain, Courtney Groce, and John Paul Groce, and by six great nieces, six great nephews and numerous great great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors Friday, December 12, 2014 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster, Texas. The celebration of Maxie’s life will begin at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home with an interment to immediately follow in Forest Park East Cemetery.
Pall bearers will be Bill Groce, Ric Kiersh, Kevin Kiersh, Will Spencer, Jeff Spencer, and Jared Groce.
The family would like to thank Becky and Steve Davis for their constant dedication to Maxie’s care and all her caregivers the last years, especially LuLu Aguilar and Mercedes Laborde.
