BARBARA ANN PAINTER Barbara Painter passed away on December 6th at home surrounded by her family. Barbara was born on December 28, 1934 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Matt and Helen Schneider. She grew up in Manhattan, Kansas, and it was there she met Richard Painter, who she married in 1959. After briefly living in Michigan, Washington, and Stockton, California, they moved to Oroville, where she lived for the remainder of her life. Barbara was very active in Oroville civic life. She gave 40 years of service to the Oroville Element-ary School District, 31 of those as the secretary of Ophir Elementary School where she touched the lives of hundreds of educators and thou-sands of students. As a Pink Lady volunteer at Oroville Hospital she provided support to hospital staff and patients and later served for many years on the Oroville Hospital Board. Barbara was active in Friends of the Park, serving as treasurer for the organization and as a volunteer on activities they sponsor that connect the community to the Lott Home and the Chinese Temple. An avid reader, she served on the Friends of the Library Board. Her love of animals drew her to support Oroville's Promo-tion of Animal Welfare (PAWS). Barbara and Richard were accomp-lished and passionate ballroom dancers, at-tending dances several times a week. She served as co-chair-person of the Southside Senior Dance which sponsors monthly dances for seniors and people of all ages who love ballroom dancing. Barbara was a skilled bridge player and belonged to several bridge groups. She enjoyed travel and experiencing new places and people, making many trips with Richard and the family to destinations in the U.S. and taking several trips abroad to places like Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and England. Barbara is survived by her husband, Richard Painter, her sister, Sue Holmes, her children Pam Brereton (David Brereton), David Painter (Mary Dudzik), Heidi Painter (Jim Micheaels), and Andrew Painter. She was a devoted grandmother to Deanne, Richard, Daniel, Maggie, and Annie, and a beloved great-grandmother to Sara, Amelia, and Silas. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 16th at St. Thomas Catholic Church. A rosary will be said for Barbara at 9:15, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 and a reception in the parish hall at 11:00. A visitation will also be held at Scheer Memorial Chapel in Oroville from 4:00-8:00 pm on Monday, December 15th. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to one of Barbara's many charities: PAWS, Friends of the Park, Southside Senior Dance, or Friends of the Library. Please also honor Barbara by dancing whenever the music plays, enjoying a good hand of bridge, and spending time with those you love.
