Clyde Eugene "Gene" Roberts, 48, 2901 Gap Creek Road, Hampton, died Tuesday, January 1, 2002, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Roberts was a native of Carter County and the son of Billy Joe and Mildred Gentry Roberts, Hampton.
Mr. Roberts was an electronics engineer and was formerly employed at Texas Instruments and at North American Rayon Corporation.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Frances Roberts, and a son, William Charles Roberts.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a son, Bobby Eugene Roberts, Hampton; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Ray Kempton, Hampton; a sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Jimmy Barnett, Hampton; a brother, Butch Roberts, Kingsport; a grandson, Seth William Roberts, Hampton; an uncle, Moses Mendenhall, of Illinois; two nieces, Amy Walker, Hampton, and Becky Parlier, Elizabethton; five nephews, Kevin Walker, Charlie and Chris Geisler, all of Hampton, Kenneth and Wayne Stevens, both of Elizabethton; and two brothers-in-law and spouse, Charles and Linda Geisler, Hampton, and Phillip Stevens, Elizabethton.

ROBERTS -- Graveside services for Clyde Eugene "Gene" Roberts, 48, 2901 Gap Creek Road, Hampton, who died Tuesday, January 1, 2002, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 5, at Roberts Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Waycaster officiating. Active pallbearers will be Bobby Eugene Roberts, Butch Roberts, Kevin Walker, Ray Kempton, Jim Lewis, John Aldro and Charles Geisler. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Hughes, Burl Vines and Lewis Russell. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:55 p.m. Saturday for the graveside service. Mr. Roberts will be returned to the residence, 2901 Gap Creek Road, Hampton. The family will receive friends at the residence any time after 2 p.m. Thursday until the time of the graveside service on Saturday.
