Sandra Kay Stevens-Straw-Isaacs was the Daughter of Gerald LeRoy Isaacs & Hope Devere Isaacs-Johnson-Raeder. She had two son's: Andrew U.D. Straw & Jason L Straw.

Plainfield, Indiana - Sandra (Sandy) Kay Stevens, age 48, born Sandra

Kay Isaacs on August 23, 1948 in Goshen, Elkhart Co, Indiana died

Wednesday, February 26, 1997 at 7 am at her home at 310 Wabash St. in

Plainfield. She had been battling cancer for two years.

She was the daughter of Gerald LeRoy Isaacs, a WWII veteran,

carpenter and painter, and Hope DeVere Johnson Raeder.

Sandra was born and raised in Elkhart County. On October 8, 1966, in

Goshen, Indiana, she married Phillip U.D. Straw. Phillip served a tour

of duty in Vietnam as a Marine and their first son, Andrew U.D. (Andy),

was born March 19, 1969 at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. Their second

child, Jason Lee, was born September 18, 1973 in Goshen.

Sandra's sons are both married. Andrew, a law student at Indiana

University, married Paola Voci, daughter of Sergio and Lauretta (Franca)

Voci , on July 16, 1994 in Ferrara, Italy. Andrew is a ten-year resident

of Bloomington. Paola is pursuing a Ph.D. in Chinese. Jason, now serving as

a medic in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina,

married Beckie, daughter of James Williams and Linda Brinkley

of California. Beckie is also in the Army and serves at Fort Bragg, HHC,

18th Airborne Corps.

Jason and Becki presented Sandy with her first grandchild, Zachary

Michael, born at Ft. Bragg, just days ago on February 24, 1997.

Shortly after Phillip's discharge from the Marines and the couple's

return to Goshen, they opened the Community Locker, a frozen meat

specialty store which they operated from 1972 to 1984. In 1987 Phillip

and Sandra divorced. Sandra went back to school and completed an

associates degree in computer programming at Ivy Tech Vocational

College's South Bend campus.

Sandra worked as a programmer for the Bristol Corporation from1986 to

1988, then for Pilgrim Farms in Plymouth until 1990. Then she moved to

Indianapolis to take a programmer/analyst position at the Hunt

Corporation's international headquarters. She held that position until

February 1996.

Sandra married James A. (Jim) Stevens, a U.S. Postal Service employee,

born in South Bend, Indiana in 1949. After a courtship of just under a year,

the couple were married on March 28, 1996 at a small outdoor ceremony at

Butler University's Holcomb Gardens. Sandra moved into her new husband's

home in Plainfield, where he still resides.

For the last two years, Sandy has been active in the Grace Fellowship

Church in Avon. Many of her dear friends from that congregation have

assisted in her care during the long illness.

Sandra also leaves a half-brother, Russell Johnson, and a half-sister,

Linda Johnson Paulson, both of Elkhart County, and a stepson and

stepdaughter, Luke and Joanna Stevens of Ocala, Florida.

A memorial service will be presided over by Sandra's pastor, Warren

Burns, at the Hall-Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield. This service will be

held at one o'clock p.m. Saturday, March 1st at the funeral home. Sandy

will be interred at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield.
