Carrington, Alfred Preston, Lieutenant United States Navy, Retired. Preston was born May 12, 1931 at the family home place, Bellfield Farm, on Jennings Ordinary Road in Burkeville, Virginia. He passed away at the age of 83 on November 25, 2014 at his home with his family by his side.

He was the son of Luther Macon Carrington and Lucy Pearl Hobgood Carrington. He is survived by his wife, Ann Dance Carrington and four daughters, Deborah F. Carrington (Hood), Angela C. Dillard (Dale), Gerri C. Williams (Mark), and Suzanne P. Carrington. He is also survived by sisters Elizabeth Carrington Pendergrass of North Carolina, and Ella Carrington Schipke of Connecticut.

He had nine grandchildren that he was very proud of and loved very much, Tara K. McDaniel, Dylan C. Frazier, Preston G. Williams, A. Ross Kelton, Caitlin F. Frank, Dane C. Williams, Molly A. Williams, Isabelle C. Morgan, and Elijah J. Charles.

He also had seven precious great-grandchildren, Gavin R. McDaniel, Cameron L. McDaniel, M. Alexander McDaniel, Tyler E. Frazier, Campbell E. Frank, Tucker T. Frank, and Rylan C. Williams.

Preston graduated from Burkeville High School in 1947 and joined the Navy in 1948. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of dedicated service in 1968, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. Preston returned to the home place in Burkeville and worked in sales for twenty years. He was an industrious worker and an extraordinary man who loved his family first and foremost. He will greatly be missed.

Visitation will take place on Friday, November 28, 2014, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home, 200 West Caroline Ave., Crewe VA, 434-645-7310.

Military graveside funeral services will be held at Ward’s Chapel Church on Saturday, November 29, 2014, 2:00 p.m. 7818 Namozine Rd., Crewe VA, 434-645-7864.The family wishes to thank Hospice of Virginia for their wonderful care.
