Thomas “Tata” A. Joseph, Stafford Street, Farrell, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Saturday (12-6-14) with his entire family at his side in the intensive care unit at UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 89.

Mr. Joseph was born March 8, 1925, in New Castle, one of seven children born to Michael and Helena Abraham Joseph.


He graduated from New Castle High School and later studied at what was then Slippery Rock College.

He served in the Army in the military police at the end of World War II; he interpreted both French and German for the Allied Forces and reached the rank of corporal.

Mr. Joseph earned top salesman of the year several times for Washington National Insurance Co., where he worked for more than 30 years. He also was a member of the Red Jacket Club at Washington National Insurance, which was their highest achievement award for sales.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus-Holy Trinity Church, Sharon.

An avid fisherman, he loved the outdoors and gardening, especially enjoying growing delicious tomatoes that he shared with his family and friends.

In his spare time he loved thoroughbred horse racing and spending time with his many friends socializing at the racetracks.

He married the former Helen Godek on May 12, 1951; she survives at home.

He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Jennie Gabriel, Anne Joseph and Mary Pagley; and three brothers, Michael, Abe and Jacob Joseph.

Interment: St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Hermitage.
