KING---Pearl Esther, Daughter of Lee and Ada (Miller) Garber was born in Montgomery County, Phillipsburg, Ohio, on August 13, 1923.

She grew up in this farming community and lived with her parents until May 18th 1941 when she was married to Thomas J. King of Greenville, Ohio. She was blest with 59 years of marriage. Her husband passed away in the year 2000. She continued to live in her home in Greenville, Ohio for the next 14 years. She was able to care for herself with minimal outside help. Her legs finally gave way on Friday, Nov. 28. At this time she willingly agreed to look into some form of assisted living, and was able to quickly find an apartment at Oakley House in Greenville, Ohio. She lived there just two days, when she suddenly declined and expressed a desire for the Lord to take her. In just a few hours it was so. She departed this life at around 3:00 P.M. on Friday December 5, 2014. Her sojourn had been 91 years, 3 months and 22 days.

We can fondly say she lived a life of few regrets. Important events in her life include her marriage as mentioned, her baptism on June 23, 1939, her membership in the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, her call to the deacons office with her husband and later her call to the ministry with her husband, the birth of her two sons, Kenneth E. King, and Philip J. King, and later the birth of 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She enjoyed farm life for 30 years after her marriage, and then enjoyed her home in Greenville for the remaining 43 years. Though she rarely got far from home, she was blest to make acquaintances near and far making and selling over 3,000 bonnets, crocheting and selling over 650 shawls, and finally making and giving away nearly 600 little baby blankets ideal for little girls to wrap their dolls in. It is easy for us to correlate her life with the scripture that beseeches us to work with our hands that which is good. She talked fondly of her husband, her 2 sons, and of her neighbors and of various church friends who would stop in with fresh summer produce or with prepared meals and other food items. Hers was a simple, yet detailed life, the details of which she could share for 20 minutes at a time without her listener having to contribute even once.

Her neighbors have already testified that she was loved and will be missed. Also loving and missing her are her two sons, Kenneth of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Philip with his wife Becky of Greenville, Ohio, her 3 grandchildren, Jill Flory and husband Travis, of Covington, Ohio, Deborah Flora and husband, Matthew of Sawyer, Kansas, and Jordan King of Sawyer, Kansas, 5 great grandchildren, Renae and Tucker Flora of Kansas, and Emma, Larke, and Becca Flory of Ohio. She is further survived by (4) sisters, Treva and husband George Flora, Gladys and husband Merle Benedict, Wilma and husband Everett Brubaker and Betty and husband Harvey Bowman, (1) sister-in-law, Helen Garber, (1) sister-in-law Martha and husband Robert Miller, (1) brother-in-law Amza Stoner with wife Joyce, and quite a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Thomas, (1) brother, Richard Garber, (2) sisters, Margaret and husband Russel Lesh, and Mable and husband Joseph Flora, (1) daughter-in-law, Donna King, and (1) grandson, Bradly King.
Her passing was a bit unexpected both to us and those at Oakley who had so kindly and professionally helped her get settled in and were eager to start convalescing her and making her feel at home with other church friends and neighbors she knew who were also living at Oakley. The callings of God to come home are so marvelous, no two are the same, yet each one is a testimony that God is in control.

Our hearts now ascend upward. At the right hand of the Majesty on high sits a beautiful being who intercedes and comforts us poor mortals with the majestic words, "I am the resurrection and the life, he that liveth and believeth in me shall never die….and because I live, you shall live also." That says it! Farewell, Mom, it is not death to die.
