Jodie K. Greer George passed away April 26. 1995 in Jackson, MS after a brief illness.
She was born March 29, 1912, to her parents, Joe & Annie McGuffie Kyzar in Lawrence County, Mississippi. She was the fifth child of eleven children. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson, MS.
Jodie married the man of her dreams, Horace Greer of Ruth, MS, on May 30, 1942, a young man who was serving in the military as Corporal and was called to war only two weeks after they were married. Sadly, he lost his life in a plane crash in Tampa, FL.
She later married Willard George. She had no children.
Jodie was a world traveler and enjoyed visiting many countries. She loved carrying friends with her and also traveled alone. She was a loving and caring sister and aunt to many in her family. She always loved making over the children of the Kyzar family especially at Christmas, when she would bring sacks full of gifts. They all loved "Aunt Jodie."
Jodie graduated from Copiah Lincoln College in Wesson, Mississippi and later received her master from Columbia University, New York, and taught school for many years at Provine High in Jackson, Mississippi.

The scholarship goes annually to a deserving student from either Lincoln or Lawrence Counties. Financial need will be a priority. The recipient should maintain a reputable grade point average. Only interest from the principal will be awarded from the scholarship. Mrs. George was a retired educator and a past president of the Copiah-Lincoln Alumni Association.
The Horace and Jodie K. Library Fund was established by Mrs. Jodie K. Greer George in memory of her late husband. Mrs. George was a 1937 graduate and Horace Greer was a 1931 graduate both of Copiah-Lincoln College in Wesson. The fund was an endowment for the Evelyn W. Oswalt Library with the interest to be used to purchase books, periodicals and materials which will strengthen the library's collection.
Interment was in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Jayess, MS.
