Funeral Services for Thomas Irwin Newton 72, of Grants, New Mexico will be held on Thursday-November 20, 2014-10:00 AM at Compassion Mortuary. Burial will be held at the Grants Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday-November 19, 2014 from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM at Compassion Mortuary.

Thomas was born on April 10, 1942 in Springer, New Mexico and he passed away on November 17, 2014 in Grants, New Mexico.

Tom's entire career was with the Department of Corrections in New Mexico, starting out at the Boy's School in Springer, moving to Roswell as Warden of that facility and then to Grants to open up the Western New Mexico facility. After retiring from state, he went to work fro CCA at the Women's prison, becoming Warden there. After being offered a job at the Corporate Office in Nashville, Tenn., Tom spent one year there as Regional Director of several nationwide facilities. in Sept. 1997, he decided to retire and move back to Grants to be closer to family. He continued to work as a consultant for CCA and Transcor for many years but finally retired, enjoying golf, his yard, traveling and family.

Tom Married Kitty Newton in 1963 and they had three children: Sons: David Newton and wife Carolyn of Grants, New Mexico and Guy Newton and wife Klara of Alpine, California; Daughter: Neita Smith of Lovington, New Mexico. In 1985, Tom and Sherry, met at a class reunion and were marred September 20, 1987. They have lived in Grants their entire married life. He is also survived by: Brother: Jerry Newton and wife Roberta of Belen, New Mexico; Sister: Barbara Roberds of Aztec, New Mexico; sister-in-law: Norma; Tom loved his 4 Grandchildren: Athena, Cristy, Mikayla and Jerry Smith, Jr. and his 4 Great Grandchildren: Autumn, Olivia, Liam and Matthew.

He is preceded in death by his Parents: Oliver Newton and Evelyn Clanton Newton; Brother: Jack Newton.
