William Griffin died at his home in Jefferson City yesterday. He had been a life-long resident of Jefferson City since his birth here 90 years ago and was the first lamp lighter in the city. He began lighting the old street lamps when he was 13. In later years he worked at Decker's Garage at the site which is now the Capitol Theater.
He was born in 1860 and was married to Miss Ada Tilley in April, 1889. She died in 1936.
Surviving are a son, Malcolm, a granddaughter, Miss Tillie Mae Davis, and a grandson, Rodney Joe Griffin.
He was a member of the Second Baptist Church.
