Son of Horton and Mahala Davis Burris. On July 29 1861, Jacob Burris mustered into Co A 19 Regiment IN Volunteers. He was wounded in Spotsylvania Co., VA in the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5 or 6, 1864. His leg was amputated, and he died in a prison camp. Records don't show which camp he was taken to, but most likely either Libby Prison in Richmond, or Belle Island Prison on the James River. The whereabouts of his body remains unknown.
