She was a kind, humble, hard working Lady. She raised her family on a small hillside farm on Stafford Fork of Martin County, Kentucky. Every thing she had came to her from her own hard work, little was given by her husband. Her sons, in latter years, saw that she had some comforts of life. She lost one daughter ( Elizabeth) as infant. The child is buried near her. She had eight children. Carrie, Ervin, Ethel, Melvin, Russell, Lafayette, Myrtle, and Elizabeth. Her mother (Mary "Polly" Ward Penix and 1 sister ( Gypsie Penix Goble ) are also buried in the Swain Plot.
