During the past week one of our citizen has had a very dark cloud of affliction hang over him. On Sunday June 16th a new baby arrived to gladden the happy home of Mr. and Mrs John Dykstra. A few days following this event a daughter aged two years was taken ill, nothing serious was feared till Wednesday night when the little child showed signs of diptheria [sic], and before Thursday morning the little one, always so patient and good-natured had breathed her last. The shock to the mother was so great I that she was taken very ill and fears were entertained that she to might not survive her little darling a great while, the lady realised [sic] her condition at once and although suffering greatly, was rational almost to last and gave directions, bade friends and loved ones farewell and told them of the blessed hope she had in her Savior, who had died that all beleaving [sic] in him might have everlasting life. On Friday afternoon the funeral services of the little daughter had been appointed to be held and before noon of that day the spirit of the loved wife and fond mother had taken its flight to the beautiful home above, who having reach the age of 35 years. On Friday afternoon, as per arrangement the funeral of little Sarah were held at the Holland Presbyterian church, at which time the new pastor, Rev. John, conducted the services on Saturday afternoon the funeral of Mrs. Dykstra was held at the same church from which the little daughter had been buried the day before. The services being again conducted by the pastor Rev. John. A large concourse of relatives and friends being present to show by their presence the sympathy the sorely afflicted and bereaved husband and motherless children so much needed in this, their dark time of trouble. May a gracious and loving Father who doeth all things well, pour il of consolation into the wounds of his children, who "thought now seeing through a glass darkly," do not know what may be still in store for them.
