Bonnie Marie Yocum, 85, of Genoa died Monday, October 13, 2014, at Pine Acres Rehab and Living Center in DeKalb due to the effects of dementia.

She was born in DeKalb IL, on October 19, 1928, to Ben and Ruth (Van Patten) Vagle. She married her high school sweetheart Kenneth Yocum on January 3 1948. Bonnie was a graduate of the DeKalb High School, Class of 1946. She was a homemaker and co-owner of the Genoa Greenhouse for nearly 60 years. They lived in Genoa until their retirement in 2006, and then moved to Sycamore.

Bonnie was a avid bridge player. She played in many groups over the years in the Genoa, Sycamore and DeKalb area. She also enjoyed entertaining her card club groups so she could try out some new dessert recipes on them, or just serve some of the groups favorites. In her spare time she enjoyed golfing with friends, and their vacation home in Florida. She was always collecting new recipes for meals or desserts. Bonnie was also a member of the DeKalb Legion Auxiliary for 70 years.

Survivors include her son, Steve (Nancy Brantner) of Lewis Center Ohio; her grandson, Brant; a brother, Roger Vagle of Cape Coral Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; a sister, Betty; and brother, Bob.

Her funeral service will be on Thursday, October 16th at 1:00 p.m. at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, with Rev. GaHyung Kim officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Her visitation will be on Thursday from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Butala Funeral Home in Sycamore.
