ATTLEBORO- Patrick W Gorman Sr. of Sandcastle MHP passed away December 2, 2014 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health. He formerly resided at 7 Angell St. in Attleboro for many years.

He was the husband of the late Blanche E (Kelley) Gorman who passed away in 2007 and at the time of her death they had been married for nearly 58 years.

Born in Coalport Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late William J Gorman and Pearl (Reed) Gorman.

He was a veteran of the US Navy serving on the Gearing-class destroyer the USS Glennon DD 840 and the Buckley-class destroyer escort USS Wilke DE 800 as a Fireman Apprentice. After his honorable discharge from the military, he briefly settled in Detroit and worked for the Ford Motor Company. It was in Detroit where he met the love of his life, Blanche. After their marriage, they moved to Attleboro and remained there to raise a family.

He served the City of Attleboro as a special police officer during the late 50’s and early 60’s. He had a long career as a manufacturing supervisor at Metals & Controls and Texas Instruments for over 41 years retiring in 1991.

A devoted family man, while raising his young family in Attleboro he frequently worked multiple jobs to make ends meet.

Entering the Navy at only 17 years of age, he had left high school to serve his country. He later took classes to receive his GED and then attended the University of Rhode Island and earned a Certificate in Management.

After retirement he and his wife Blanche enjoyed spending the cold months in Tampa Florida at their winter home and then spent the summers at their cottage in Wareham Massachusetts.
He was the father of the late Patrick W Gorman Jr. of Attleboro and the brother of the late Joe Gorman and Mary Camarata both of Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his children George T Gorman of Rehoboth, William D Gorman and his wife Phyllis and Elizabeth J DeTore and her husband Dean, and a daughter-in-law Maureen A Gorman, all of Attleboro. Also, a brother Thomas Gorman and a sister Ann Hamilton both of Pennsylvania. Four grandchildren, Lisa C Gorman, Kathryn P DeTore, Mariah J Gorman and Devin P Gorman all of Attleboro. He also leaves behind his feline companion “Fred”.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, in St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St., Attleboro. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Attleboro.
