Major League Baseball Player. The 6-foot-2, 250-pound right-hander broke in with the Cincinnati Reds in 1940 by going 2-1 with a 3.50 earned run average in 19 games. He was traded on June 12, 1941 to Boston for outfielder Lloyd Waner. He was with the Braves from 1941 to 1942 and 1944 to 1946. His best season was 1945, when he was 7-6 with a 3.75 ERA for 185 innings and two shutouts. His six-year totals were 12-18, a 3.96 ERA and three shutouts. He pitched for Indianapolis from 1942 to 1944, 1946 and from 1948 to 1951. He also was a coach for Indianapolis and became manager in 1960. With the team at 30-39 in 1960, he was replaced by Ted Beard.
