"NANCY S. RHODES"

WARSAW: The Angel of New Castle Hill was called Home on Thursday, December 4, 2014. Nancy Sue Rhodes (Black), age 84, died at Mifflin Care Center in Mansfield.

She was born June 30th, 1930 to Gilbert N. and Ella Sue (Dickenson) Black in Morristown, Tennessee.

She moved to Mansfield in 1950 where she lived until 1985, then moving to Warsaw. She quickly became known as "The Angel up on New Castle Hill"

Nancy previously worked at Shelby Spring & Hinge, Stewarts Root Beer Stand, and Dairyland on Springmill Street and when her children were in high school, all their friends liked to gather at the Rhodes house for a kettle of hot chocolate and toast before heading to school. She was lovingly known as "Momma Sue."

But her life was dedicated to the Lord, her family and church, where using her God given talent, she played the piano for 30 yrs. She played for innumerable weddings and funerals also. Everyone loved to hear her and couldn't believe she played by ear! A gift from God.

The most loving, giving generous person; she never met a stranger, and treated everyone the same. She had the most humble, meek spirit, and loved everyone, a true born-again Christian.

She is survived by her husband, Charles L. Rhodes, of 66 years. They married: November 15, 1948. The first time she saw him, she said "That's him, that's the man I'm going to marry!" and she did. The "Love of her Life"; five children, Charles Wayne (Ann) Rhodes, Coshocton, Judy (Bill) Young, Mt. Vernon, Linda (Steve) Reynolds, Lucas, Danny (Barb) Rhodes and Phil (Pat) Rhodes, both of Mansfield; 10 grandchildren, whom lovingly called her "Gran". Each one would say "Gran likes me best!" 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Jackson of Costa Mesa, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Ella Black; two brothers; David and Tommy; and three sisters, Wanda Bolen, Mildred Roberts, and Sarah Whiteley.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Rev. Harold Nickell officiating. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery at Warsaw. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m - 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
