Death of Mr. M. J. Adams.

Mr. M. J. Adams, well known by all his friends as Mr. Mick Adams, died at his home near Fredonia, Ala., Saturday morning, Dec. 18th, at six o’clock, after a few days illness of acute indigestion. He was seventy-six years old at the time of his death. He leaves a wife and one daughter, Mrs. Eugene Boykin, of Nashville, Tenn., one brother, Mr. Joshua Adams, of Adams, Ala., and one sister, Mrs. McCoy, of LaGrange, Ga., besides a number of other relatives and a large circle of friends. He was a faithful member of the Fredonia Baptist Church, and his pastor, Rev. Ramsey, preached his funeral at the home Monday morning at eleven o’clock, his remains being interred at Pinewood Cemetery at West Point at two o’clock. Mrs. Mary Willie Askew had charge of the music, being assisted by Mrs. Will Lanier, Mrs. A. C. Booker, Mrs. Alfred Cumbee and Messrs. Hargett and John Stodgill. A large number of friends from West point, Roanoke, LaFayette and other towns near by attending his funeral. Many flowers adorned the casket.

Mick Adams owned a plantation near Fredonia, just under seven miles from West Point, known as "The Homeland", that comprised over 1,000 acres. The Greek Revival house burned in the early to mid-1960s.
In William Davidson's "Pine Log And Greek Revival", he states...Mick Adams served during the War Between the States in Company "A" 10th Confederate Cavalry, Wheeler's Corps, Kelly's Division, Anderson's Brigade. He was wounded at Missionary Ridge.
After buying "The Homeland", he operated an early type of cotton gin for the plantes of the area.
