Those less than 18 years tended to be assigned to state Militias and support duties such as litter carriers for the dead and wounded. Samuel is listed in his Military File as “Died at Abbeville SC Nov 23, 1864”. He had been in various hospitals in Virginia and Tennessee with Chronic Dysentery and was home on furlough with this illness. He is probably buried in the Duncan Cemetery in Abbeville County SC.
