Calvin William Collins of Federalsburg, MD known as “Bill” and “Reds” passed away at his home, Friday, August 15, 2014. He was 88.
He was born January 17, 1926 in Williamsburg, the son of the late George Collins and Bessie Bradley Collins.
He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He received the European Theater Award serving on the U.S.S. Ellis Destroyer and helped put Harry F. Bauer into commission and then served aboard in the Pacific. He witnessed the flag being raised at Imo Jima. Bill traveled in every state and to be part of the two ships reunions.
Bill was employed by Dupont Company in Seaford DE for 41 years and loved farming.
Bill’s memberships included the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company for 64 years, the Nanticoke Masonic Lodge 172, A.S.A.N. for 52 years, the Federalsburg V.F.W. Post 5246, Christ United Methodist Church, and attended New Liberty Wesleyan Church. As a faithful fireman he was put into the Eastern Shore, Delmarva, and the Caroline County Fireman Halls of Fame. Bill was truly free hearted to help anyone in life and was a true Christian Man.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of sixty-eight years, Gladys Morgan Collins, who he married on March 1, 1946, his daughter, Sharon Collins Lord, of Federalsburg, two grandsons, Wayne “Butch” Lord and his wife Dawn of Bridgeville and Barry Lord and his wife Brenda of Federalsburg, four great-grandsons, Bradley Lord, Taylor Lord, Mitchell Lord all of Federalsburg and Steven Lord of Bridgeville, a great-great-grandson, Trevor Lord of Federalsburg, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five siblings, Kemp Collins, Alice Holder, Eva Mae Ruf, Roy Collins, and Janet Hamm.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Mackert and Rev. Eddie Elms and Hank Elms officiating. Interment with follow at Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. A visitation at the funeral home will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m and from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday. A V.F.W. Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. and a Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
