Patrick "Pat" McBride

Patrick “Pat” McBride passed away peacefully in his sleep in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia on March 8, 2014. He was 60 years old. Pat was a devoted husband, loyal friend and kind and generous to everyone he met. Pat had an outrageous sense of humor, always enjoyed a good joke and especially took sincere pleasure in making other people laugh and helping those less fortunate than him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Pat was born in Hollywood and grew up in Saratoga, California. He graduated from Saratoga High School (where he also met his future wife, Sharon) in June 1971. He and Sharon moved to Galveston in 1977 where Pat attended TAMUG and in 1980 earned his B.S. in Marine Transportation. Pat and Sharon married in Galveston in 1983 and moved to Dickinson in 1989 where they lived happily in their home on Dickinson Bayou with their only child, Carolyn. Pat sailed with the Merchant Marine for 20 years when, in 2001, he accepted a position with Saudi Aramco and departed with his family to work in Saudi Arabia for 13 memorable years. At the time of his passing Pat was preparing to retire to Marble Falls, Texas to pursue his dual passions of motorcycle riding and barbecuing.

Pat leaves in mourning his loving wife and soul mate of over 30 years, Sharon; daughter, Carolyn; mother, Marjorie Gerdts; brothers Terry and Brian McBride along with the many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends who loved him dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on what would have been his 61st birthday and retirement date., September 20, 2014. We will celebrate having been lucky enough to have had him, if ever so briefly, in our lives.

So, to all of you who were left breathless from Patrick McBride’s comic gift, come raise a glass, tell a story and laugh (try to tell a Pat story and not laugh) at Mario’s Italian Restaurant at 628 Seawall Blvd on Saturday, September 20, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. In honor of Pat, the dress code will be Hawaiian shirts or other casual attire. As most of you know, Pat was all about being comfortable and having a good time. In lieu of flowers the family requests you make a donation in Pat’s name to the animal rescue organization of your choice.
A light has gone out in this world that cannot be replaced. Patty, we will miss ye.
