Thelma Bess Baggett, 92, died December 1, 2014 at Forrest General Hospital. Born October 2, 1922, in Harperville, to Hugh and Zola Haralson, the third of six children, Bess was reared in Harperville under the guidance of her grandparents, Wilber and Eula Cochran. She obtained her Master’s degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University and was employed by Scott County Health Department in Harperville. She earned a reputation as a person of tremendous integrity and a loving caregiver.

Bess was a member of Harperville Baptist Church, the Mid-Century Club in Forest, the Broadmoor Baptist Church and Broadmoor Bell Choir in Jackson, and the First Baptist Church and Senior Sunday School Class in Hattiesburg. She was preceded by her husband, Horace Gustern Baggett; her parents; and two brothers, Hugh Holifield Haralson, Jr., and William (Bill) Haralson.

Bess is survived by her children: Dr. Horace H. Baggett (Sandra) of Hattiesburg, Sharon Carnathan (Neil) of New Smyrna Beach, FL, John Michael Baggett (Sheree) of Forest, and Dr. Barbara Sigrest of New York; five grandchildren: Scott Baggett of Birmingham, Casey Moore, Bjorn Strigel and Annalise Strigel, all of New York and Abigail Baggett of Forest; one great-grandchild, Claudia Moore of New York; three sisters: Sara Betty McAlpin, Zola Tyree and Frances (Pamp) Brantley, all of Harperville.

There will be a graveside service at a later date in Harperville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Baptist Children's Village. Her family would like to thank the staff of Forrest General Hospital for their care and also to her Sunday School Class for their warming friendship and support.
