Evelyn I. Silliman, daughter of William LeRoy and Lottie (Pietz) Silliman, was born at Windom, Minnesota on December 25, 1905. She grew up in this area and graduated from the Windom High School. A graduate of Hamline University, she taught at Wayzata, Sleepy Eye, Le Center and Kasson before attending the university of Minnesota where she received her library degree with honors.

Before he marriage to Maurice W. (Pat) Malone on January 12, 1943, she was librarian at Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis. Maurice died October 30, 1968.

Active in politics, she served as state chairwoman of the Democratic Farmer Labor party in 1960-1962. Evelyn was a charter member of the local chapter of the AAUW, a member of the Okabena Chapter of the D.A.R. at Worthington, Order of the Eastern Star, and Library Board. Evelyn served on the Executive Comm. of the Minnesota Society of Mayflower Descendants and as Co-chairman of the Windom Concert Assoc. She belonged to the Windom United Methodist Church.

Evelyn and John O. Burton were married June 7, 1975 at Windom, Minnesota where they made their home. John suffered a heart attack and passed away on June 22, 1980.

On Tuesday, February 18, 1981, Evelyn died at a Phoenix, Arizona, hospital of injuries received Mondy when she was struck by a car while walking at Sun City, Arizona.

Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William A. Silliman and Leslie A. Silliman, and two sisters, Mable (Mrs. Roland Muller) and Margaret (Mrs. Stuart Fitzhugh). Evelyn is survived by one brother, Cecil Silliman of Windom, two sisters, Beatrice (Mrs. George Lennon) Ruth (Mrs. Raymond Peterson) and nieces and nephews.Name: Evelyn Burton
