Son of Edward Armstrong RUTLEDGE, nephew of Capt. William Pinckney RUTLEDGE (buried in Pond Springs Cemetery) and of Thomas Lafayette RUTLEDGE (who donated the land for Pond Springs Cemetery). James was born in Tennessee 11 September 1851, and died in Williamson County Texas on 17 June 1909. He is buried with his wife Mary Estella (BUCHANAN), whom he married 14 December 1871 in Williamson County Texas.
