Bettie B. Sowders, 93, of Indianapolis, passed away December 3, 2014. She was born September 28, 1921 in Utica, OH, to the late Henry C. and Ruby I. Melick Lightner.

Bettie served her country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, where she was a Ward Supervisor Nurse. She was a Registered Nurse with Hancock Memorial Hospital for many years, and after retirement, a volunteer at Community East. Bettie was a 68 year member of Woodruff Place Baptist Church.

Bettie is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Ted M. Sowders; children, Diana (Ron) Marchitelli, Phillip Sowders and Ted (Terrie) Sowders; sister, Marguerite Mason; and five grandchildren.

A granddaughter, Jennifer, preceded her in death.

Services entrusted to Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel.
