Serethine Dertan Varhasselt, 80, former Frannie resident, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in North Big Horn County Hospital. He had been in the hospital three days.

Mr. Verhasselt had resided in Big Horn County since 1918 and was a retired oil field worker and painter.

He was born Feb. 2, 1882 at Ecklo, Belgium, and came to the United States in 1898.

Mr. Verhasselt was a member of the Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Edward Verhasselt and Julius Verhasselt, both of Billings; two daughters including Mrs. Margaret Frame, Frannie; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Deaver Methodist Church. The Rev. Edward White will officiate. Burial will be in the Deaver Cemetery. Haskell Funera Home is in charge of arrangements.

Seraphinus Bertin VERHASSELT, also called Seraphien, but commonly known as "Joe" Verhasselt, was my grandmother's (Sara Rosalia d'Have) first husband. He was the son of Eduardous Verhasselt and Marie Therese Vanhoecke of Eekloo, Belgium.
