Gerald D. "Jerry" Dankert, 85, of Carp Lake, died Saturday, November 29, 2014, at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey in Petoskey, with family members by his side.

He was born June 11, 1929 to Elmer and Zora (nee Shannon) Dankert in Toledo, Ohio.

The family moved to Michigan when Mr. Dankert was 16 years old. He graduated from Pellston High School.

He married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Phillips, June 24, 1950 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mackinaw City.

Mr. Dankert spent his working life as an Operating Engineer with Local 324, working throughout Michigan. After retirement, he spent 16 summers working at the golf course at Boyne Highlands. He enjoyed spending winters in Bonita Springs, Florida, where he loved the sunshine and fresh oranges. His main hobby was enjoying and feeding the birds, both in Florida and Michigan.

He was a lifetime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mackinaw City.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Audrey; four sons and their families, Dan of Raber, David and Loralee of Levering, Mike of Petoskey, and John and Shiela of Levering; six daughters and their families, Cathy and Frank Ranville of Cape Coral, FL., Mary Scott of Burns, Wyoming, Sally and Scott Bleser of Bonita Springs, FL., Theresa Dankert of Petoskey, Becky and Eric Bjorkman of Levering, and Elaine and Marc Polk of Colorado; 17 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dankert was preceded in death by a son, Jim, who died in September 2014, and his only brother, Don Dankert.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 4th at 11am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mackinaw City with Father Paul Megge and Sister Chris Herald officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10am to time of the service. A luncheon will be served following the service.

Dodson Funeral Home of St. Ignace is assisting the family with arrangements.
